im tired of finding sites that the chart is not helpful at all. im new to guitar and i need to know what fret and what string to play for the chords.

When you learn songs at ultimate-guitar.com, they usually provide a chord diagram if you hover your mouse over the chord name.

It would also be of benefit to have an instructor or friend who can show you these things in person.

any way i can learn to read drop d guitar chords from a standard tuning chord chart?

the tuning i play in is D A D G B E and its really hard to find a drop d guitar chord chart and NOTES chart i want to learn all i can about drop d tuning, for it is my favorite tuning and i will be in a band who plays in drop d.

Since standard tuning is E A D G B E and drop D is D A D G B E, only difference between two is the low E string, which has been tuned down two frets.

so let’s say this is a tab in Standard tuning

Low E—–3—5—7—5—-3

If you’re trying to convert that into drop D tuning, it would look like

Low E—–5—-7—9—7—-5

so you basically add 2 for the Low E string.

keep in mind that if the song is written in standard, it won’t sound right if you try to play in Drop D

okay, im a beginner. i need a little help on reading the guitar chord chart. how do you know which fret to play on? do you read it sideways? im really confused….

im looking at some of them online and i don’t understand them. I had this app on my ipod which is now broken that helped me understand the chords. I ha-vent played guitar in a couple of months an di cant remember some of the chords. I only know one or 2. I now im coming of as sooooo dumb right now but i need help. Can u plz help me? Question about guitar chord charts?

how do you know what fret to put your fingers on. I think i know how to read them but I don’t know how to tell what frets to put them on. I’m teaching myself by the way. NO experience with stringed instruments.

If you are looking at a chart vertically, the first fret will be at the top. It is universally taught that your index finger is numbered "1", middle finger "2", ring finger "3", and pinky "4". So if it says "1" on the first fret of the high E and B strings, "2" on the second fret of the G string, and "3" on the fourth fret of the D string, you are looking at an F chord.

If looking at a tab, it would look like this:
Fmajor
E ———-1———–
B ———-1———–
G ———-2———–
D ———-3———–
A ———-x———–
E ———-x———–
This means you are fretting the first fret on the high E and B string, second fret of the G string, and 3rd fret of the D string. Hope this helps.

Where can I find a jazz chord chart with just the shapes?

I play guitar in my school’s jazz band and I’m trying to figure out the chord shapes for various types of chords like 6, ma9, 6/9, +7, mi9, 13 sus, b13, and many others. I’ve looked online, but all I find is huge charts for specific chords, when really all I want is the shape.

That’s not how you play jazz. You can’t just play block chords. There are various forms of every chord you mentioned. Sometimes we just play a simple triad. It depends on the context of the song and what the other musicians are playing.
The best way to learn these is to start with a scale. Any major scale, lets say Eb. Learn the basic major7 minor7 dom7 and min7b5 in all the forms up and down the neck. You should be able to play them anywhere within 1 fret of the scale form.
then take the root up a whole step and that will give you a 9th chord. Take the 7th and drop it to a 6th and so on.
After a while you will see chords anywhere on the neck.

I love this song so much, but I don’t have a piano and wouldn’t be able to play it if I did. And for the life of me I can’t play by ear. But this song is so beautiful and I’d love if somebody could come up with even a lose Chord chart or Tab for the guitar for it? Thank you very much if you can! I can’t find any online by the way, I’ve looked.

Welcome to the classical music category. I don’t know much about this particular piece of music, but it does not appear to be classical in nature. I would try reselecting the category, where it is more likely to be recognized.

It calls for moe than 4 fingers? Like for example, f. If I look at an f chord chart it looks like it want me to use 6 fingers. How do I play it? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I really have no idea…
